Nas orações condicionais tipo 3, pode ser utilizada a forma perfeita do "present conditional".

Oração "If" (condição) Oração principal (resultado)
If + past perfect "perfect continuous conditional"
If this thing had happened that thing would have been happening.

Funções

O "perfect continuous conditional" pode ser utilizado nas orações condicionais tipo 3. Ele indica o resultado incompleto da ação presente na oração "if" e expressa esse resultado como uma ação inacabada ou em progresso.

Exemplos
  • If the weather had been better (o que não ocorreu), I'd have been sitting in the garden when he arrived (mas não foi assim).
  • If she hadn't got a job in London (mas ela conseguiu), she would have been working in Paris (mas não foi assim).
  • If I had had a ball I would have been playing football.
  • If I had known it was dangerous I wouldn't have been climbing that cliff.

O tempo verbal "perfect continuous conditional"

O "perfect continuous conditional" de qualquer verbo é composto por quatro elementos:
"would" + "have" + "been" + "present participle"
O "present participle" é formado pela inclusão da terminação "-ing" ao radical do verbo.
