EF Education First Seizes the Opportunity to Invest in Economic Downturn and Extends Qualifications of all EF Teachers Worldwide
London, June 25th, 2009
Education First (EF), the world's largest language training organization, has started its worldwide teacher enhancement campaign to help give their professional academic staff an additional credential and raise the bar on all teachers. English language teachers at any EF school will be provided with an additional Cambridge ESOL qualification to supplement their existing credentials in a global effort to ensure the very best and latest professional skills.
"Our teachers are at the heart of everything we do"
EF's Worldwide President, Philip Hult, comments, "Teachers are at the heart of everything that we do. EF is the single largest recruiter of native-speaking teachers in China, and we scour the earth looking for talented, qualified teachers with recruiting and training centers in the U.S., U.K., South Africa and Australia. In fact, we hire only 1 out of 20 applicants to teach our EF schools." EF has begun to prepare for its native English speaking and local English instructors for the Cambridge ESOL's Teacher Knowledge Test (TKT) at EF schools across China, Russia, and Indonesia. Within one year, EF estimates that the majority of existing and new their teachers will have this additional teacher qualification that is valid for their professional career.
"Fundamentally improving the way students learn"
Earlier this year, EF announced a ground-breaking collaboration with the University of Cambridge Examinations (Cambridge ESOL), provider of the world's premier English language certifications, to improve the way students learn English. EF has invested 5 million dollars in research and innovation to improve the EF curriculum and teaching methods used by the 15 million students in EF's over 400 learning centres around the world. Giving existing and new EF teachers Cambridge ESOL teacher qualifications is one part of this collaboration which also includes the EFCELT (EF Cambridge English Level Test), an exclusive exit test written by Cambridge ESOL exclusively for EF students, and the establishment of the EF Research Unit at the University of Cambridge to explore accelerated language learning.
